The Runaway Bridge is...
- A 24 Hour Telephone Hotline staffed by trained professional counselors who are able to discuss problems or concerns in areas such as alcohol or drug use, family problems, teen pregnancy, school difficulties, abusive relationships, and suicide. Counselors can refer you to resources in the community which can assist you with your problems.
- A temporary shelter which provides a safe place to sleep, eat and talk to a counselor about why you ran or were forced to leave your home.
- The Runaway Bridge offers you a safe alternative to the streets and an opportunity to begin sorting out problems and working towards more productive relationships with family, friends, school and the community. For parents, we provide relief in knowing that their child is safe and the opportunity to work with a professional counselor to discuss issues with their child.
- Available to youth ages 9 - 17, who call from La Crosse, Monroe, or Vernon Counties in Wisconsin. Youth who are in trouble with the law cannot be accepted at the Runaway Bridge.
Runaway Bridge is a program funded by the Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services. The program began in 1982 and is a program of Gundersen Lutheran.
